It’s my favorite time of the year!!! I’m one of those “grown-ups” (I use this term VERY loosely) who never completely stopped believing in Santa, never lost the magic of Christmas, and still gets as giddy as a child on Christmas morning. Yes, I know… I’m a bit of a Christmas nerd, but I love EVERYTHING about this season. Still, nothing prepared me for how much more magical Christmas became once I had my daughter.
But, like a lot of us moms, sometimes I get caught up in the go-go-go from one holiday activity to the next, and forget to slow down and enjoy the sparkle in my daughter’s eyes. To keep myself in the moment, I’m constantly brainstorming ways to slow down and spend more one-on-one time at home with my sweet little Smidgen. This year, her favorite activity so far has been this easy-peasy Festive Goldfish Christmas Tree Craft!
Prepping for the Magic
I don’t know about you, but I have a remarkable inability to draw a symmetrical Christmas tree outline. To help myself out with this, I made a template on my computer to trace for the tree and the star. (Snag your copy at the bottom of this post!) I printed out the two page template, grabbed a piece each of green and yellow construction paper, a pencil, a black marker, a pair of scissors, a bottle of glue, some cotton balls, and the star of the show: Goldfish Cheddar Colors!(Learn about how they make the yummy colors here!)
Once our supplies were assembled in a way that would make Anne Burrell proud, I cut out the tree and star templates and used the pencil to trace them onto the colored construction paper. Note: I did these steps because my little angel is only four, but if your kids are older feel free to let them do this part themselves!
After cutting the tree and star out of the construction paper, I glued the star onto the top of the tree, and laid out the green and red Goldfish Colors crackers in the pattern we wanted, marking each spot with a dot and a tiny arrow so we would remember which direction we wanted them to go. Of course, that was incredibly Type A of me, and is absolutely not necessary, especially if your little ones are taking the lead on this project! Once the spots were marked, I sketched in the light string to make sure it connected to each tiny, Type A, arrow.
Bring on the LIGHTS!!!
Finally, it was time to start gluing on the red and green Goldfish Colors crackers! This step was my daughter’s favorite, though that might have been because she got to snack on all the extras!
Once all of our Goldfish Colors cracker light bulbs were on our tree, it was time to add the snow! We stretched out our cotton balls, added a line of glue to the bottom of the tree, and let it SNOW!!!
After a little LOT more snacking, our Festive Goldfish Christmas Tree Craft was COMPLETE!
I hope you and your family enjoy this Festive Goldfish Christmas Tree Craft as much as we did! Download your FREE PRINTABLE TREE TEMPLATE here, and find even more holiday inspiration on the Goldfish Pinterest Page!!!
